My name is Mick Casey and I’m transgender man – (woman to man),I have a thing called “Gender Identity Disorder” – “G.I.D”.From a young age I always wanted to be a boy and I know that I was different from all the other girls but I didn’t know there was a name for it.I never even heard of “Gender Identity Disorder” & I didn’t know what it meant.I suffered from depression and went into myself because I thought nobody understood me and what I went through. Also I found it hard to cope with my condition and the feeling that I must prove myself all the time to people who had no faith in me and didn’t believe in me at all.I know I have proved these people wrong. In 1998 I did a 2 year horticulture course and in 2005 I did a 2 year course in computers.

Being a Writer & Getting Published
I have being writing from a young age and it always came easy to me.I have a learning disability so it made it harder for me to get what I wanted to say on paper but my disability didn’t hold me back – if anything it made me work harder at my writing because of the love I had for it.I wrote many poems and sent them to many publishers but always got rejected – I found this hard to understand & kept asking myself what was I doing wrong? I showed a few people poems that I wrote and was always told they were good but said nothing about spelling or grammar. In late 2005 I did a writing course which was for six weeks and the teacher was very nice along with being a writer herself - I always ask her to read my work to the class because I always liked to hear it out loud and the class would give same feedback about it which I found to be very useful. The teacher had gave me a name of a group in England called “Just Writers” who might be interested in publishing my poems – so I emailed them one of my poems called “Green Fingers”. I got an email back from them saying that they would be interested and they would help me by giving me their feedback and comments on each poem and so it happened – Just Writers published my first poem “Green Fingers” on their website “Disability Writes” on 26th January 2006 and since it got published – many more poems got published in magazines in England and Ireland, and on a website in Canada called Greatpoetryrymhf’s Weblog – http://greatpoetrymhf.wordpress.com/
